Harvest Festival - The food of your thought gives life

The Chafford Hundred Community Forum organised a Harvest Festival in aid of Feed The Children which took place on Saturday, 30 September at the Leapfrog Nursery Car Park, Drake Road .

Wherever there is famine, conflict, disease or poverty, it's always the children who are most vulnerable. Feed The Children UK concentrates aid on children suffering the effects of poverty, especially those who have been orphaned or abandoned. Unusual among charities, they do not just ask for money - they also ask for life-saving goods to send to the projects they support.

Items that are urgently required are: dry food: pasta, rice, fruit, flour, sugar and salt. In cans: fish, tomatoes, vegetables, fruit and can openers (all food items must have a six month shelf life). Other essential items needed are blankets, towels, nappies, baby clothes, candles, hair brushes, washing soap, shampoo, books, pens, chalk and buckets.

Many members of the Execuitve were on hand collecting items at 11am. Once again the sun was out and the Amarda Centre was buzzing with activity. Several tour groups got to see inside the Beacon building and were told of its past, present and future.

We had a good response to the Harvest Festival, we collected several boxes of various items from, curtains and towels, to canned food and instant noodles. We also had the 'tin shakers' outside Tesco Express and we would like to thank all who contributed to the £66 we raised through the tins.

The Forum Executives would like to thank all the generous people of Chafford who donated items to this worthy cause.

Further more anyone who donates 10 items or more on the day were in with a chance of winning a cash prize of £50. All the tickets were put in a hat and the lucky ticket number 716 won the drawn.

Harvest Festivals are very common in many cultures around the world. The Harvest Festival provides us with an opportunity to give thanks for the food we eat and it is also an opportunity for us to remember those who are not fortunate as ourselves.

Together we made a difference
